Duhok 3-Day Province Explorer
A three-day circuit covering the breadth of Duhok province: the lakeside city on day one, the mountain road to Amadiya and Sulav on day two, and the Lalish–Zakho corridor on day three. Suits travellers who want more than the city highlights and have a car.
Day 1
Duhok City- Morning
- Morning at the reservoir: walk or boat. Lunch at the old bazaar kebab strip.
- Afternoon
- Drive up to Zawa Mountain for the late afternoon city panorama. Evening dinner on Nawroz Street.
Day 2
Amadiya & Sulav- Morning
- Early departure for Amadiya (90 min). Explore the plateau town: Ottoman gate, old mosque, Assyrian inscriptions, market stalls. Lunch in town.
- Afternoon
- Drive down to Sulav (10 min from Amadiya — it sits at the foot of the plateau climb). Spend the afternoon by the springs: wade in the pools, eat at a riverside restaurant. Return to Duhok in the evening.
Day 3
Lalish & Zakho- Morning
- Leave by 8:00 am for Lalish (about an hour). Spend two hours at the temple complex; leave by 11:30 am. Drive northwest toward Zakho.
- Afternoon
- Lunch in Zakho, then walk to the Delal Bridge. Explore the old quarter. Return to Duhok along the main highway (55 min).
